A certain Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 that was one of Princess Diana’s cars has been recently sold at an auction for $764,000 (₦458 million).
This price is 10 times that of a previous record-holding RS Turbo, which was sold as a collector-quality example.
This Princess Diana’s car is now the new record holder of the Ford Escort.
There’s also a silver Ford Escort car Prince Charles bought for the Princess of Wales one month before they married.
Last year, during an auction, the car sold for $54,800—also 10 times the usual cost of the silver Ford Escort Ghia sedan.

Later on, Princess Diana replaced the car the Prince bought her with a black RS Turbo in 1985.
Only three black-painted examples were made for Diana and her security; almost every other RS Turbo was white.
While the car was designed to have a subtle look, the performance wasn’t.
The Ford Escort RS Turbo is one of the most potent hot hatches of the time, with 130hp on offer from its 1.6-litre engine.
Although that doesn’t sound like much lately, the car only weighs around 950kg (2097lbs), making it suitable for 0-97km/h (0-60mph) in around 7.5 seconds.
The bidder that won the car IS FROM Cheshire, England.
Silverstone Auctions led the auction, and in a statement given by Silverstone Auctions car specialist Arwel Richards, he said;
“We have sold a number of motorcars that have had a royal pedigree, but this car ticks every box in terms of history, rarity, condition, and mileage.
“When royal cars come to auction, they’re usually Rolls-Royce or Range Rovers, so to offer the very best example of the working class hero’s hatchback with such provenance is perhaps unique and therefore very exciting.”
