2021 Toyota RAV4 for sale – Toyota in 2019 released the stunning, new RAV4 with an upright SUV-like look combined with easy-to-drive crossover running bits. The 2021 RAV4 will remain mostly a carryover model when it rolls in, save for one huge update: a plug-in hybrid model. For 2021 it’s entirely possible the new RAV4 Prime could make a big impact in the plug-in hybrid category.

It’s not your typical plug-in hybrid, though, since it has a definite performance slant that’s new to the RAV4. With more powerful electric motors powering the rear wheels and new lithium-ion batteries, the RAV4 Prime will have an estimated combined output of 302 horsepower. That makes it the most powerful RAV4 ever.
Toyota also estimates the RAV4 Prime will reach 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, making it the second-quickest vehicle in the lineup behind the GR Supra. To accompany the power, the Prime will feature a sport-tuned suspension and unique styling flourishes. In more pragmatic news, it should return 39 miles of electric range on a full charge.
Inside, the new-generation RAV4 brought in a more stylish cabin that included a stubby gear shifter, a more upright dash, a dash-top infotainment screen, and unique color options. The latter is especially true with the contrast stitching and piping in the off-road-ready Adventure model. We expect some mild style changes inside the 2021 RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid, as it will gain an instrument cluster tuned for eco-friendly drivers. For the most part, though, we expect these changes to be subtle.
Under its hood, we expect the bulk of the 2021 RAV4’s powertrain options to remain the same, including its standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid model will also use a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, but the electrification pushes its power to 219 hp. The standard RAV4 will pair its engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard, but all-wheel drive will be available.

2021 Toyota RAV4 Interior
The RAV4 draws closer to the Tacoma and 4Runner in all the right ways. It’s a mini off-roader in some looks, even if it lacks the hardware to match. The roofline is low and stylish, we can even see a little FJ in there, but it doesn’t overplay its hand with too-small windows. The low roof takes its toll on passengers inside, driving while slouched is more than a life choice sometimes. The RAV4’s chunky fenders in TRD Off-Road and Adventure trims look good, and the sporty touches to the new RAV4 Prime are a win for the ‘ute.
Inside, the RAV4 is a mishmash of soft-touch materials and hard plastics with a wide and horizontal dash and touchscreen planted above the vents. Some trim levels differentiate with contrast stitching, which is a nice touch. The RAV4 Prime goes further with red inserts and synthetic leather.
2021 Toyota RAV4 Performance
An efficiency-minded, performance-ready crossover is the world we want to live in, but the one we do live in still buys the regular RAV4 at an alarming rate. We give the 2021 RAV4 a 5 for performance based on the regular powertrain. The all-wheel-drive systems offered on the RAV4 aren’t all the same: LE and XLE versions get a base system that shuttles power backward for low grip.
2021 Toyota RAV4 Fuel Economy
The most common powertrain is a 2.5-litre inline-4 that drives the front wheels. The EPA rates that at 26 mpg per city, 35 highways, and 30 combined. That’s a 5 on our scale. The most efficient RAV4s are also the most expensive. The RAV4 Hybrid manages 40 mpg combined and the new RAV4 Prime goes further. Toyota says the RAV4 Prime can travel up to 39 miles on electricity alone and will rate up to 90 MPGe, which is a measurement of how efficient electrified vehicles are with their drivetrains.
